SSC/MGT 391 Asian Pacific Islander Desi American Experiences in Business
This 1-credit course is offered every Fall, and it explores diverse Asian Pacific Islander Desi American (APIDA) experiences in business and entrepreneurship. Using interdisciplinary approach, students in this course examine challenges and opportunities that APIDA businesspersons encounter in national and international contexts, as well as historical origins of APIDA contributions to entrepreneurship. Topics we cover in this course include, but not limited to, diverse APIDA entrepreneurship; small business in immigrant community; “model minority” myth in corporate setting; APIDA business leadership and “bamboo ceiling”; visibility and invisibility of APIDA business enterprise; media representation of APIDA business; identities of APIDA businesspersons; APIDA entrepreneurship and social justice; and APIDA community and sustainable business.
